About HSi

HighSchoolInterns.com is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is committed to helping disadvantaged high school students, high school students who may be at risk of not completing high school, and high achieving high school students make a more informed decision about their future. In working with area independent and public high schools, High School Interns is able to serve different types of high school students.

For instance, in Nashville, Tennessee, High School Interns works with such area schools as University School of Nashville, Montgomery Bell Academy, and Ensworth High School from the independent schools and, through Pencil Foundation's Jobs for Tennessee Graduates of Middle Tennessee Program, High School Interns reaches public school students at eight Metro High Schools. Students must attend a participating school among other requirements to apply for an internship through High School Interns. The internship program is designed to be selective and competitive.

Founder's Motivation

When I was in high school, I ultimately wanted to practice law and work on business ventures. Completing a high school summer internship at a national background check company and seeing first hand what it is like to practice law from my father and grandfather helped me realize that my goals could become a reality.

These experiences enabled me, while a high school student, to meet and learn from great people, understand the work culture, and obtain a real world perspective in a legal and business career track. When I enrolled in the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, my high school internship put me ahead of other students in terms of having a passion towards a major and confidence in life. When most students in college were deciding what major to choose or classes to take, I already had a real world reference from high school, and contacts to call on if I had any questions. Even as a freshman, I could relate what I was learning in the classroom to what I had already learned in the working world. My success as a freshman was highlighted when I was inducted into both the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.

Today, internships for high school students are still usually only available through close friends or family. Most students who want a high school internship cannot find one or do not even try because they do not think that they can get one. Therefore, I formed HighSchoolInterns.com, a non-profit organization, to help high school students have internship opportunities. My hope is that high school students will be more motivated to succeed in school, make more informed decisions about their future, and begin the next stage of their life with the same sense of purpose that I was fortunate to have had.
